cavity

liam got his first cavity filled today. since the cavity was so small he didn't need to be numbed. he did so well. he didn't move at all!

i was excited for this appointment because when the dentist discovered the cavity she said that they have a laser drill and that it would take seconds to prepare the tooth for the filling. it has been almost eight years (how is that possible??) since i worked in dentistry and i expect there to be new technology. but when they filled the tooth today they used the hi-speed drill i was used to and the old stand-by "Mr. Bumpy" the slow speed drill. and the bonding and filling material was the exact same stuff used when i was an assistant. i was a little disappointed.

as we were exiting the dentist office, another lady was walking in. liam announced to her "i got my first cavity!" he was so excited and proud about it. despite the talk about "sugar bugs" eating a hole in your tooth, he hasn't picked up on the fact that cavities are bad things!

Please tell Liam Congratulations on his cavity. At least he wasn't screaming and freaking out about it. My kids always want to have cavities too. I made the mistake of allowing Abbie to have a milkshake after having some cavities filled. It was lunch time, and she couldn't eat so I got her the milk shake. Anyway, they think it's a tradition now.
